STAR HUNTERS #1 (DC, 1977)

Star Hunters #1, published by DC Comics in 1977, marks the debut issue of a short-lived science fiction series created during a period of experimentation at DC. The series was written by David Michelinie with artwork by Don Newton and Bob Layton. The story follows Donovan Flint and his crew as they are forced into a cosmic struggle against a totalitarian regime in the 22nd century. The cover features dynamic artwork typical of the late Bronze Age, with bold colors and dramatic action scenes. This issue is notable for its attempt to blend space opera with social commentary, reflecting the era's interest in speculative fiction. Collectors value this comic for its unique place in DC's history, its creative team, and its relatively low print run compared to mainstream superhero titles. Authentic copies are identified by the DC bullet logo, 1977 copyright, and original cover price of 30 cents. Condition, including the presence of original staples, gloss, and absence of major defects, significantly affects collectibility and value. Prices for this issue vary based on condition, rarity, and current market demand.

ALL-NEGRO COMICS (All-Negro Comics, 1947)

June, 1947 This one-shot's back cover touted features on Ace Harlem, Sugarfoot, and Snakeoil in the following issue, which, alas, never was published. And apparently not many of this issue, a 15-cent oddity, were published; Gerber gives the book an almost unheard of rating of 9 ("very rare"). To further enhance the allure, Overstreet advises the book is "seldom found in fine or mint condition; many copies have brown pages." To date, CGC hasn't certified a copy with a grade higher than 7.5.

History
All-Negro Comics, Inc was started by Orrin C. Evans with partners Harry Saylor, Bill Driscoll, and a few others. He hoped to address the absence of black heroes in popular culture and to set "high moral and educational standards." Although they had great ambitions, they were only able to publish one issue of All-Negro Comics. A second issue was planned and artwork made for the comic, but the publishers could not find enough vendors willing to sell their comics and they soon folded.
