The Silver Story --- Silver Dollars, Silver Granules and Silver Certificate Collection (Treasure Album Dist.)

A set of coins and currency, with the unique addition of actual silver granules, encased in a black plastic folding wallet, with a Series 1957 $1 Silver Certificate in Uncirculated condition. The set also includes a Morgan silver dollar and a Peace Silver Dollar dates vary.

This treasure album represents a look at a bygone era, a time when the average U.S. citizen could reach into his  pocket and get a silver coin. June of 1968 will always be remembered as the official time when Uncle Sam decreed that his silver certificates were no longer redeemable for silver. The tiny drops of silver granules which a citizen could get only by traveling to the San Francisco or New York Assay Office were his redemption fulfillment. No mail transactions were allowed so the number of redeemable certificates were minimal until the dealer in silver got into the story. By offering a bonus ranging from 50 percent for a certificate, the dealers were able to redeem many millions of the bills. In turn, they got bars of silver and then resold them for a minimal profit in a fluctuating market.

Silver was sold by the Treasury at an official rate of $1.29999 per ounce. As the stockpile lessened, the restrictions against unlimited purchases were placed into effect and only legitimate holders of a necessary use certificate were allowed to buy at the very low price. The outside market price ran as high as 75 percent above the government supported figure. The bars were sold as fast as they were offered and prices and offerings for silver certificates varied from day to day during the last few months of the silver certificate redeeming period.
The silver dollar was also in the public's eye from a hectic day in 1964 when demand forced the Treasury to limit the coins as the cash window, where they had been available for face value.  Coin collectors and the general public soon realized that the coins were no longer to be had in exchange for paper dollars and the demand began to escalate. Even the Las Vegas gambling casinos were forced to eliminate the use of the standard silver coin and substituted a metal token to prevent their supply from disappearing. The silver dollars are now only seen in collections and exhibits.

But no matter the history of the silver dollar, its aide in circulation - the certificate or the granules - the story of silver is vital to every American because it represents a change in viewpoint by official Washington. The currency of the U.S., no longer tied to gold since 1933, is now almost gone from any ties to silver. The student of economics of tomorrow will know the truth of the policy change. Was it for the best or was it an inflationary act? He will always look at this package and its contents and relish the thought that his general and silver were synonymous.

For Jews it has been sacred for more than three thousand years; for Christians, two thousand years and for Moslems, for more than one thousand years. Jerusalem brings together and unites all those who believe in it and its sanctified tradition. In November 1949, Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion announced the transfer of the Government's offices to Jerusalem and proclaimed Jerusalem the capital of Israel. He stated, "that everything has been arranged to facilitate the catering for the religious needs of all the different faiths in Jerusalem". Following the Six Day War, the Government announced that Israeli law would henceforth apply to East Jerusalem. The heads of the various religious communities were advised that the Knesset, Israel's Parliament, had passed a special law assuring freedom of worship and access to the holy places.

ISRAEL "Hadassah" Hospital Mount Scopus Bronze Medal (Israel Gov. Coins & Medals Corp. Ltd., 1975)

The Hadassah University Hospital on Mount Scopus was dedicated in 1939 and rapidly acquired a reputation for being the best equipped in the Middle East. With the increasing attacks on the Jewish community, intending to frustrate the establishment of a Jewish State, access to Mount Scopus became more and more dangerous. On May 8, 1948, it became necessary to evacuate the last of the medical staff from Mount Scopus. Soldiers of "Haganah" were left behind to maintain Jewish sovereignty and to guard the installation. Jerusalem was reunited on June 8, 1967, after the Six Day War. Hadassah leaders raised their ensign on Mount Scopus and declared: 'This is the banner of a war against ignorance, disease - the banner of Peace. On raising it we hereby vow - this hospital shall come back to life again."

USA 2007 W Thomas Jefferson's Lady Liberty 3rd Presidency $10 Gold Coin from First Spouse Series

The Presidential $1 Coin Act of 2005 contains a provision to provide continuity of the First Spouse Gold Coin Program during those times in which a President served without a First Spouse. This provision applies to Thomas Jefferson, whose wife Martha died in 1782. Married in 1772, Thomas Jefferson was a widower for 19 years when he became President in 1801.

The gold coins issued to accompany any President who served without a spouse will each feature a design emblematic of Liberty on its obverse, as depicted on a United States coin originally issued during the President’s time in office. For Thomas Jefferson’s presidency, the selected image appeared on the Draped Bust Half-Cent coin from 1800–1808, and was originally executed by United States Mint Chief Engraver Robert Scot.

Reverse Design

Thomas Jefferson is widely recognized for his unmatched expertise with the written word. Even in death, Jefferson left no room for interpretation, leaving careful and precise instructions detailing exactly which of his achievements would be memorialized on his final resting place.

Located on the grounds of his Monticello estate, his monument states "Here was buried Thomas Jefferson: author of the Declaration of American Independence, of the Statute of Virginia for Religious Freedom and father of the University of Virginia."

ISRAEL Jewish Volunteers in the British Forces 59 mm Bronze Medal (Kretschmer Mint, 1946)

59mm. High relief design by Rothschild and Lippman in an antique finish. Limited edition of 3,900.

About a million and a half Jews served in the Allied Forces during the Second World War. However, the 35,000 Jewish volunteers from Palestine-Israel serving in the British Forces, fulfilled a unique national service as representatives of the Hebrew State in the making.
Following a protracted struggle with the British Government "The Brigade" was established in 1944 - A Jewish Fighting Unit - its emblem included the Star of David. The Unit participated in the battles of the "Eighth Army". Its members extended aid to the survivors of the holocaust and played an important role in organizing "escape routes" and clandestine immigration. The volunteer movement was nothing less than a reflection of Jewish valour, Jewish honor, Jewish redemption and independence. The graves of its 1706 casualties can be found from the Persian Gulf to Tripolitania, from Ethiopia to Northern Italy, forming the milestones along the many roads leading to the establishment of the State of Israel.

Obverse: In the center the verse: "Here am I, send me" (Isaiah 8:1) in Hebrew and English, and the Israeli flag raised on high. The inscription on the rim: "The Yishuv's Volunteers in the British Forces, 1939-1946" in Hebrew and English.

Reverse: In the center: "If a man means to kill you strike first" (Talmud Brachot 62). The Hebrew letters "chaf" and "lamed" appear like swords opposing each other. On the rim, the English translation of the above. On the right, the yellow badge forced on the Jews of Europe by the Germans.

Edge: The State emblem and the words "State of Israel" in Hebrew and English. Serially numbered.

USA 2007 W Andrew Jackson's Lady Liberty $10 Gold Coin from First Spouse Series

The Presidential $1 Coin Act of 2005 contains a provision to provide continuity of the First Spouse Gold Coin Program during those times in which a president served without a first spouse. This provision applies to Andrew Jackson, whose wife Rachel died in December 1828, just a few months before his presidential inauguration.

The gold coins issued to accompany any president who served without a spouse will each feature a design emblematic of Liberty on its obverse, as depicted on a United States coin issued during the President’s time in office. For Andrew Jackson’s presidency, the selected image appeared on the Capped Bust, Lettered Edge Half-Dollar coin from 1807–1836, and was originally executed by United States Mint Engraver John Reich.

Reverse Design

Andrew Jackson, known as “Old Hickory,” is remembered as a war hero who led a force of approximately 4,000 American troops against a British Army more than twice that size and emerged victorious in January 1815 at the Battle of New Orleans. Although a treaty had been signed at Ghent, Belgium, weeks earlier, the news had not reached either army, and the American troops’ victory at the Battle of New Orleans helped secure that crucial southern sea port as part of the first successful military defense of the country’s national sovereignty.
