The Last Silver Dollars of the Americas Collection (International Monetary Mint, 1982)

December 27, 2025 - Each coin in this collection was advertised as "Brilliant Uncirculated" condition. This three-coin starter kit was offered by International Monetary Mint to collectors in 1982 as a way of demonstrating the excitement and rewards of collecting world silver dollars. At one time, over 60 nations minted these crown or dollar-sized coins. Today they have vanished from circulation and it is unlikely any more will ever be minted.

The three coins included in this collection consist of a United States "Peace" Dollar, a Canadian "Flying Goose" Dollar, and a Mexican "Morelos" dollar. The celebrated Peace Silver Dollar was authorized following World War I to express the hope of mankind for peace among all nations. Designed by Anthony de Francesci, who is said to have used his wife as a model, the word PEACE appears in relief on the rock on which the eagle is perched. It was issued from 1921-1935, after which all 90% silver dollar coinage was halted. Thus the Peace Dollar became the last true 90% U.S. silver dollar struck until the introduction of the modern commemorative dollars. Weight: 26.73 grams.

The Canadian "Flying Goose" Silver Dollar was minted for ONE YEAR ONLY, and double dated 1867-1967 to celebrate Canada's Centennial. The obverse features Queen Elizabeth II in a portrait by Arnold Machin -- the reverse by Alex Colbille, depicts the native Canada goose in flight. It proved to be the last silver dollar ever issued for circulation in Canada, and the last of Canada's .800 fine silver coinage. During the 1979-1980 siilver bullion boom, an estimated 80% of Canadian Dollars were melted for their silver, further increasing the rarity of the Goose dollar. Weight: 23.33 grams.

Mexico's super-sized 100-Peso "Morelos" is the largest of the three silver dollars in the collection. It is also the largest denomination legal tender coin ever issued by the Mexican Government. It pays tribute to a priest, Jose Maria Morelos y Pavon, who led Mexican revolutionary forces into battle in 1810. The 100-Peso was minted in Mexico City as part of Mexico's "Independence" silver coinage. Despite the fact that Mexico is a leading world producer of silver, this is the last silver "dollar" Mexico has struck for circulation. The coin is comprised of .720 fine silver and weighs 28 grams.
