Birks: Sterling Silverware Company - A Brief History

July 19, 2026 - Henry Birks & Co. was established in Montreal, Quebec, in 1879, and became Henry Birks & Sons in 1893. It acquired Gorham Co. of Canada Ltd. in 1907. The company used date letters as early as 1898, and later adopted hallmarks, which covered the years 1904 to 1962. Some silver patterns: Chantilly, George II Plain, Louis XV, and Old English.
