National Historical Society History of America Commemorative Medallic Cachets NCS (Franklin Mint, 1978)

Complete set of 100. Each medal measures 32mm (1-1/4") in diameter.

The National Historical Society, headquartered in Gettysburg, PA., was dedicated to bringing the significance of American history to all the people in the U.S. and to enrich their enjoyment and understanding of the events contributing to American freedom.

In keeping with this mission, the Society issued a medallic history of America. This history was recorded as a set of 100 medallic cachets, each recapturing one of the greatest events in America's past. Each cachet (envelope) carries a medal portraying the event it honors in authentic and historically accurate detail. Each stamped cachet is officially postmarked at the closest available post office to the site identified with the event on its exact anniversary date. To add to its historical value, each cachet bears a first-person account of the event commemorated, as reported by an actual eyewitness of the time. The eyewitnesses to these great events include some of America's most outstanding patriots.

The 100 events selected by the Society encompassed the entire history of America. To give the collection a feeling of immediacy, each of these events was depicted as it was actually seen and reported to an eyewitness to that event.

A special Certificate of Authenticity, bearing the signature of the Society's president, also accompanies the collection. To house and display the collection, a matched set of two custom-designed hardbound library albums was provided to each subscriber.
