In commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the world-famous La Scala Opera of Milan, La Scala Theatrical Museum issued this collection of 60 medals to honor the world's greatest operas. The museum chose the subjects for the medals and authenticated every detail of their design.

The obverse depicts the scene exactly as it would be shown on the stage of La Scala. The reverse provides a sculptured portrait of the composer and identification of the scene in the language in which the opera was written.

The set was issued from 1973-1978. Each medal is a 45 millimeter Proof, 24K gold on sterling silver.

The set consists of two 32mm gold-plated medals enclosed within two First Day of Issue stamped envelopes, all housed in a black wallet display.

This set includes a first day of issue postal cachet and 39mm sterling silver proof medal enclosed in a special leatherette display wallet. Certified July 1, 1971. On this date, the Post Office reached a historic landmark when it ceased operation as a governmental function and became a service industry. President Richard Nixon appointed Winton M. Blount as the first Postmaster General of the U. S. Postal Service and Chairman of its Board of Governors.

To commemorate the inauguration of the new United States Postal Service, the National Association of Postmasters of the United States and the National League of Postmasters issued this sterling silver commemorative medal in combination with a pair of historic stamp cancellations. The silver medal weighs about 26 grams.

The Nativity, minted with a gem proof finish in solid sterling silver. This is one of four medals struck in limited edition by the Franklin Mint to commemorate the 1973 holiday season. The Franklin Mint holiday medals were an annual tradition starting in 1965 and lasting until the mid seventies.

This collection of 50 ingots depicts the official flags of all 50 states. It was authorized by the National Governors' Conference, which represents the governors of all 50 states. The sizes and weights of the ingots vary since they correspond to the original proportions of each flag. A regular size edition was issued in 1973-1975, and a "mini-ingot" version was issued in 1975.

Complete set of 12. Each medal is 39 millimeters in diameter. The edition was minted in 18KT Gold (84 mintage) and Sterling Silver (4,675 mintage), and was issued in 1976.

The set includes the complete 24 uncirculated, 10 Deutschmarks coin set in 6 series of (4) 32.5mm coins. Each series includes coins minted at 4 out of the 5 the German Mints. Included is a blue, velvet lined, fitted case. 

This 1972 set contains brilliant uncirculated coins, while issued in mint condition, may show slight "nicks" or other minor surface marks. Even though they were never circulated, they may have been stored in bags or boxes at the Mint where movement may have made the "rub" against each other, causing "bag marks" which are superficial markings, which do not affect the coin's intrinsic beauty or value.

Each series shows a different obverse and reverse. The six themes are In Deutschland, Schleife, Athletes, Stadium, In Muchen and Flame.

An alleged "silver" map of the world, engraved in a 18th century manner. The map is contained within a gilt metal strapwork border, hallmarked, 19 1/2 inches by 27 1/2 inches (37cm x 56cm), in a ornate, heavy custom wood frame. Released in 1976. There is less than 4 ounces of silver in this map, contrary to other reports elsewhere on the Internet. We owned a damaged example at one time, and took it apart. The silver is glued to a heavy Masonite board, which makes it appear that the silver is very heavy, but once the thin foil of silver is removed from the heavy Masonite board, less than 4 ounces of sterling silver is left.

Each 35.5 mm medal is one troy ounce of .999 pure silver. Complete set of 48 medals with the original wood display case.

During Revolutionary time carved powderhorns were a highly regarded form of art. To help pass the time in the lull between battles and during the long winter encampments, soldiers inscribed their powderhorns with intricate designs. Each medal is 39mm in diameter. This was The Silver Mint's own medallic tribute to our country's 200th Anniversary. The obverse design, sculptured by Alfred Rapoport, features Mount Rushmore and the Liberty Bell. The reverse design depicts Paul Revere in front of the United States land form.

This 1976 set includes all the coins struck at the Vienna and Hall mints, for both the circulated and proof coins. The brilliant uncirculated coins, while issued in mint condition, may show slight "nicks" or other minor surface marks. Even though they were never circulated, they may have been stored in bags or boxes at the Mint where movement may have made the "rub" against each other, causing "bag marks" which are superficial markings, which do not affect the coin's intrinsic beauty or value.

In cooperation with the leading gold producers of North America, the mint issued this collection of 50 official ingots of North America's gold producing mines. Each 24KT gold ingot represents one of the 50 leading mines of the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. The name of each gold mine appears on the obverse of its ingot. The reverse carries the name of the owner/operator of the mine, together with any official company emblem, and an engraved outline map showing the mine's location.

Individual ingots were minted for the actual gold producers for the use of their own staff or customers. The mint was granted exclusive privilege of issuing the complete set of 50 ingots to collectors. The set of 50 ingots was issued in a collectors chest of polished hardwood and genuine leather. It included a transparent locking security cover, and space inside the chest lid to store background information on each ingot. The owner's personal signature could also be inscribed on the chest. The plays of Shakespeare represent an achievement without parallel in the entire history of civilization. In our time, they are more widely read and more frequently performed throughout the world, than they ever have been in the past. The reason for this is that through the prism of Shakespeare's genius, the entire pageant of human experience is seen clear and whole. He alone totally succeeded in holding a true "mirror up to human nature."

Two editions of 38 Shakespeare medals were issued by the Royal Shakespeare Theater of Stratford-Upon-Avon, England. The 45 millimeter proof series was issued to commemorate the 350th anniversary of the first printed folio of Shakespeare's plays, in 1623. The 32 millimeter medals commemorate the centenary of the founding in 1869 of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre at its present location.

Each medal is sculptured in bas-relief, and captures the essence of one of Shakespeare's 38 plays. Each work of medallic art is the creation of the distinguished English sculptor Philip Nathan. He spent three years in Shakespeare's birthplace, and received advice from the staff of the Theatre, who helped him decide on the characters to portray, and the dramatic impact of each scene. Each medal interprets the essence of a different play, in a finely detailed sculpture. A custom-designed hardbound album was provided free of charge to each subscriber.

The 45 millimeter set was issued from 1971-1974. 2173 sets of the gold electroplate on sterling silver were minted. 3287 sets in sterling silver were also produced.

In 1976 and again in 1977, the mint issued a love token. The Lover's Knot token issued in 1976, features the endless lover's knot, an ancient symbol of love and fidelity. It is a symbol that has been exchanged between lovers for centuries to express the intertwining of their lives and the unending nature of their love. 

The flower of Love (Fleur d'Amour) token issued in 1977, bears a sculptured flower design, with individual hearts forming the petals of the flower. It expresses both tenderness and passion, since flowers and hearts are among the most ancient symbols of love. The design is especially evocative of the larkspur, in the language of lovers, symbolizes 'An open heart and an ardent attachment.'

The decorative replica Miner's Transit by the Franklin Mint is an official presentation of the Autry Museum of Western Heritage. It is the first ever precision-engineered re-creation of an actual miner's transit used during the California Gold Rush and is now housed in the museum's own collection.

This piece has solid brass components atop veined green marble affixed to a mahogany stained wood base. Brass plate is engraved '150th Anniversary Gold Rush Miner's Transit'.

In 1969, the Sun Oil company used the aluminum medals in a promotional program game. There were two series of 25 medals, distinguished by their reverses. Some medals carried an "Instant Winner" reverse, which could be redeemed for cash prizes or bronze sets of medals. Sterling silver sets were offered to collectors.

The collection was available from 1969 to 1970.

The Bronze set consisted of 26 millimeter proofs. Its mintage was 325,024 sets.

To mark its founding, the Royal Air Force Museum commissioned this collection of 50 medals featuring 50 of the significant events in the history of manned flight. This collection was issued by The Franklin Mint to honor the 200th Anniversary of the U. S. Army. This was the first medallic series covering the entire 200 year history of the U. S. Army ever minted. The collection consists of 24 sterling silver proof medals. Bicentennial Histories of the U. S. Navy and the U. S. Marine Corps were minted and issued simultaneously with this series.

John Pinches (Medallists) Ltd. of London, England, The Franklin Mint's British affiliate, minted and issued this series of 100 medals to commemorate the 100 greatest men and events of British seafaring history. The series was issued under the patronage of Admiral of the Fleet The Lord Louis Mountbatten of Burma. A distinguished panel of scholars and naval historians has chosen the subjects to be honored. Philip Nathan is sculpting all the medals in this series. Each medal contains 600 grains of sterling silver.

This series of 60 medals issued by the Britannia Commemorative Society honors outstanding people, places and events in the history of Great Britain. The dies were made at the Franklin Mint and were then sent to Great Britain where 809 proofs were struck for members in England and other parts of the world. Each medal bears the subscriber's personal serial number on its edge. The Society's address was (as of 1980): The Britannia Commemorative Society, Collector Service Department, Franklin Center, Pa. 19091.

The set was issued in 1967-1976. Each medal is 45 millimeters in diameter.

Complete set of 100 ingots. In the history of art, Thomas Gainsborough stands out as perhaps the greatest of the great English masters. He was unique in his ability to blend portraiture and landscape into original compositions. While portraiture brought fame to Gainsborough, his first love lay in painting the English countryside of his birth. To commemorate the 250th anniversary of his birth in 1727, 100 of Gainsbourough's greatest masterpieces was issued in this collection of 100 ingots.

Each of these 24kt gold on sterling silver proof ingots is rich in dimensional detail. The collection was accompanied by a hardwood display chest fitted with velvet-lined drawers. The set was issued from 1977-1985.

Certified November 3, 1975. This was the first Silver and Crystal Bell issued by The Franklin Mint. It was hand-cut in the finest full-lead crystal to show an exquisite wreath design and commemorative the year 1976. The handle, electrofomed of reinforced fine silver, is a sculptured dove.

In order to stimulate support for the preservation of the great historic sites where America took form, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, a non-profit organization chartered by Congress, issued this series of 50 medallic covers. Each cover pays tribute to a different major historic site in one of the 50 states. Each cover was postmarked on the medal's first day of issue at the post office servicing the site commemorated.

The set was issued from 1970-1972. Each medal is a 39 millimeter Proof.

Proof-like medals, not in covers, were also sold to individual states.

Rarities Mint. Set of eleven 1/2 troy ounce .999 Fine Silver proof medals commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, released in 1937. Each 28mm medal is encased in a hard plastic coin holder, housed inside a velvet display box with protective outer box, with a serially numbered paper medallion in the last space.

Each ingot weighs 2500 grains. Complete set is 36 ingots. A separate issue of 2 ingots, Ford and Carter, was issued later. Price shown is for the set of 36.

On February 4, 1987, the American 12-meter yacht Stars and Stripes recaptured the America's Cup with a 4-0 sweep of Australian defender Kookaburra III. The prize was lost to Australia in 1983, after 132 years in American hands.

Original works of art, created exclusively for the first collection of Lenox Nativity Sculptures, portraying three children bringing gifts to the Baby Jesus. Handcrafted of fine bone china in solid bright white. Inscribed with the Lenox trademark in pure 24 karat gold on each piece. Figurines range from 1-1/2" to 5-5/8" tall.

The set includes a postal cachet and 1973 $10 Bahamas silver coin.

The Medallic Investor's INSIDER NEWSLETTER states that this coin was issued only for subscribers to the GREAT AMERICAN TRIUMPHS. This is an extra-large, Silver Bicentennial Medallion set with two genuine diamonds. This is the Bicentennial medallion, that completed the Great American Triumphs Sterling Silver Medallion set. The front depicts TWO CENTURIES OF LIBERTY PEACE PROGRESS 1776-1976 The back depicts the Liberty Bell with two men in patriot era clothing - with JULY 4 at the bottom.

39mm diameter solid gold gaming chip issued in limited edition by The Franklin Mint in 1979 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Monte Carlo Casino in Monaco. 1000 Francs face value. Housed in a deluxe velvet-lined display box and including a certificate of authenticity dated April 20, 1979 as well as a gold-plated sterling silver chain. The Official issue was authorized by the casino and was strictly limited to 7500 proofs. The chip is made of .500 fine gold and weighs app. 16 grams.

In 1922, the beautiful treasures buried in the tomb of the Pharaoh Tutankhamen more than 3000 years ago were discovered. In November, 1976, at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., many of these treasures were on special display in a public exhibition --- the first in a series of exhibitions held in major art museums throughout the U.S., arranged through the courtesy of the Egyptian Museum, Egypt's national museum. This collection of 36 medals was issued in tribute to Egypt's ancient art heritage in connection with the public exhibition. Each of the 36 medals depicts one of the golden treasures created for the Pharaoh, and these works of art are among the most beautiful and most important of these treasures. The reverse bears the title of the work, together with the symbol of the Egyptian Museum.

Franklin Mint's fifth annual Christmas ingot, from the Holiday Ingots Collection, which is by far their most popular collection. A new ingot was issued each year from 1970-2003. A 1000 grain ingot was issued every year, and starting in 1974 a 500 grain version was also offered. The ingots originally came in individual small display boxes, but because of the popularity of the ingots, a white display case designed to hold 10 ingots (either 500 or 1000 grain) was offered separately.

In 1964, the National Commemorative Society introduced a new collecting concept, offering a monthly series of commemorative coin-medals honoring subjects selected by Society members. Each issue is designed and sculpted by a distinguished artist. Many subsequent medallic societies were patterned after the NCS.

These ingots are base metal, not silver! The Hamilton Mint produced this set of 50 ingots in a limited edition of 20,000 housed in a walnut display case, with booklet and Certificate of Authenticity. The front of each ingot has the name and scene of one of the fifty states. The back of each ingot has the name of the state and "AMERICA'S FIFTY STATES" and "18KT GOLD PLATED" and brief notes about the state.

39mm. This was a collection of 100 gold on sterling silver fine art medals inspired by the greatest masterpieces of the Renaissance. The medals portray the greatest paintings, sculptures, and architecture produced during the centuries from 1300 to 1600. The masterpieces honored in this collection were selected with the assistance of a group of eminent art historians, including scholars associated with such leading museums as the Uffizi in Florence, the Vatican Museums in Rome, the Louvre in Paris, The Royal Museum of Fine Art in Brussels, and the Prado in Madrid. The obverse of each medal depicts the work itself, while the reverse includes the name of the artist, the title of the work and the date of its creation.

The 100 medal set was issued from 1975 to 1982.

This was a set of 25 coins from the Treasure Coins of the Caribbean Coin Collection minted and issued in limited edition by the Franklin Mint in 1985. These $20 sterling silver coins issued by the British Virgin Islands come displayed in a custom case. The complete set has a face value of $500, not US dollars, but rather British Virgin Islands dollars, which are worth about $1 US. These coins are not worth $20 each, which is a common misconception among non-collectors.

This was The Franklin Mint's first Zodiac series and the first complete series ever sculptured by Gilroy Roberts, who developed a new Zodiac design concept by interweaving sign, symbol and word in artistic harmony. This series was minted in a variety of sizes, metals, and finishes, and is very common. Pendants and other jewelry items were also struck using the designs. The set was issued from 1968 to 1970.

Complete set of 50 hand-enameled shields with sterling silver and 24 karat gold embellishments, each bearing the coat of arms of one of the great Monarchies on its face. The set is housed in a glass-topped wooden display case.

A set of two vintage commemorative sterling silver medals and a first day of issue envelope with U.S. Missouri Commemorative postage stamp, housed in a folding display booklet and issued in a limited edition by The Danbury Mint in 1971. The postmark on the envelope is the first day of issue for the Missouri commemorative 6c postage stamp, which was May 8, 1971.

Each medal is struck with a beautiful proof finish. They are 1-1/2 inches in diameter and each weighs about 27 grams or almost 1 3/4 ounces of sterling silver.
