When Clockwork was slightly altered to achieve an R rating, Stanley Kubrick wanted to call attention to the change with another image, as the original Philip Castle artwork had already become iconic. He liked the design by David Pelham of the Canadian paperback edition of the Anthony Burgess novel and had it adapted as the new poster for an "R" revised release. It was displayed in theaters only for a short time before the original image was again used, this time with an R rating. This alternate style poster had a very limited print run and, as it was directly tied to the US rating, it was only seen in North America, whereas the original design was used throughout the world. It is therefore the rarest of all official Clockwork Orange posters.

The Style A one sheet is known to exist in four different states. The first state has across the bottom border "one sheet - style A" and the NSS number as "77/21-0". The second has "one sheet - style 'A'" across the bottom border with the NSS number as "77/21". The third has "one sheet - style 'A'" across the bottom border with the NSS number as "77/21" and "Star Wars" written under it. The fourth doesn’t have the tag but just the NSS number "77/21" and "Star Wars" written under it. The one sheet was issued measuring 27x41 and was folded but a few rolled appear to have escaped the printing factory. Documented cases of authentic rolled one sheets are known, but always be very cautious about purchasing a rolled Star Wars poster due to the ever-present possibility of new and better counterfeits hitting the market. Reprints are common for the one sheet and half sheet. The most common one sheet reprints measure 27x40 instead of 27x41. The half sheet reprints are normally on paper stock instead of card stock and are larger than a half sheet sometimes measuring up to 27x40 horizontal.
