Each piece is captured for the ages in solid pewter, then set atop a solid brass pedestal base embellished with a circular band of colored enamel---blue for the French soldiers and red for those of the Allied armies.

Crafted for the Museum by The Franklin Mint, each figure is scaled to suit the role assigned to it in the game of chess. The set includes a handsome pewter-finished playing board, the fitted protective case, a Certificate of Authenticity and specially written reference materials.

The Last Supper Ingot by Fritz Weiland (Franklin Mint, 1977)

Large ingot in frame. Issued in both bronze and silver. The bronze has little or no value. "I was always amazed by Da Vinci's overwhelming achievement in creating "The Last Supper," Fritz Weiland says, "and I knew the painting was gradually disappearing from the wall. I decided it would be a good thing to create "The Last Supper" in metal, to make it permanent so it would never be lost to us. This interpretation of "The Last Supper" was first conceived 50 years ago by the brilliant artists and engraver Fritz Weiland, and protected and preserved throughout a career of achievement. He retired in 1975, at the age of 75, as master engraver of The Franklin Mint. This is the first issue of this work of art.

Weiland worked from a reproduction of "The Last Supper" that was unclear because of the original work done by Leonardo in the 15th century was faded. So he engraved what he thought Leonardo would have wanted. Weiland engraved the work directly into steel, in reverse, creating in one hand-operation the dies from which the finished ingot was struck. It was struck in relieve, then antiqued to bring out the beauty of the work. Each ingot is issued custom mounted in a hardwood frame.

The surface area of the ingot is more than 7.5 square inches. The reverse of the ingot bears Fritz Weiland's signature, etched into the ingot, to certify the authenticity of the work.

Issued in 1977.

45mm diameter medals. Complete set of 100. This set was released in both a gold-plated sterling and a sterling edition, both of which have the same value today. The set was issued from 1977-1984.

For centuries, Peter Paul Rubens has been universally acknowledged as one of the greatest artists who ever lived, a towering genius whose work stands beside that of Michaelangelo, Leonardo, Rembrandt and Raphael. For Rubens was an artist of power and vision, who could make even the most traditional subjects come alive with remarkable freshness and vitality. A brilliant artist who could capture the graceful beauty of the human form with a skill unsurpassed in the history of art. A master whose bold yet beautiful style ushered in the Baroque error of art, and whose work still stands as the ultimate achievement of that creative period.

At the 400th anniversary of his birth in 1577, the genius of Rubens was captured in this collection of 100 fine art sculptured medals, that portrays 100 of his greatest works. A hard-crafted, hardwood colelctor's chest, custom-designed in the rich Baroque style of Ruben's own time, was furnished to each subscriber.
