9/21/55 ROCKY MARCIANO – ARCHIE MOORE HEAVYWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING PROGRAM

From Marciano's last fight. September 21, 1955 at Yankee Stadium, New York. The classic bout pitted World Heavyweight Champ Rocky Marciano against outstanding light heavyweight champion Archie Moore. This was a fight in which the crafty, stubborn, 38 year-old Moore gave Marciano all he could handle before eventually wearing down as a result of Marciano's consistent pressure.

Moore floored Marciano in the 2nd round for a "2" count, but was knocked down five times himself. Moore said the early flooring of Marciano was a mistake since it only raised the Champion’s level of fury earlier.

After administering a severe thrashing to Moore for six rounds, Rocky finished off the game challenger with a 9th round KO. This was Marciano's last career fight. He retired with a professional record of 49-0, 43 knockouts (an unprecedented 88% KO rate) and the ONLY undefeated Heavyweight Champion! He is rated as perhaps the most destructive and devastating fighter of all time. Archie Moore claimed he "was far and away the strongest man I've encountered." Joe Louis said "it hurt to even bump into him." 40 oversize pages (plus covers).
