FLUBBITY DUBBITY DUFFER Limited Edition Signed Framed Lithograph (Carl Barks, Disney, Another Rainbow, 1999)

This is the sixteenth miniature in a series of limited edition Carl Barks lithographs issued in conjunction with the long-running regular-size prints produced by Another Rainbow beginning in 1982. (No painting in one series will ever be produced in the other). Circa 1999.

Donald Duck digs himself deeper with every divot-churning stroke as the Flubbity Dubbity Duffer, who finds himself hopelessly outmatched against an amused Uncle Scrooge while being watched by bored caddies, nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie. The elder McDuck was added to the scene almost as an afterthought by Carl Barks as a result of  repidly increasing interest in the miserly character that was developing when this scene originally appeared as cover to Walt Disney's Comics and Stories #140 (in May, 1952, the first cover to WSC&S to feature Donald's and the boys' rich uncle after the debut only three months earlier of Uncle Scrooge, a title that rapidly became Western publishing's best seller), this painting, which recreates the famous cover, was done in the fall of 1972.

The lithograph is printed on iridescent, mother-of-pearl paper that is constructed of 100% cotton fiber for strength and longevity. This archival quality paper has exceptional ink holdout, is acid free to resist aging, and has alkaline buffering to counteract the effects of acids normally present in the environment.

This 13-color, 8 x 10 inch print, trimmed to 11 x 13-1/2 inches is hand-signed by Carl Barks and also hand-numbered on both the front and back. The lithograph is framed by a 17-1/4 x 14-3/4 inch gold moulding with a plexiglass glazing, double-layer mat with a 12-7/8 x 10-3/8 inch opening, and mounting board. Scrooge measures 8 x 7 inches in this scene.

Three U.S. editions have been struck. This lithograph is from the Regular Edition, which was strictly limited to 595 prints. This is a closed edition. The printing plates used to create this lithograph have been destroyed to prevent future use. This is number xxx/595 and its matching Certificate of Authenticity is included, affixed to a clear sleeve on the back of the backing board.
