Closed edition. Rare, less than 10 known to exist. According to factory records, this figurine was produced in very limited numbers, probably because of its similarity to Hummel 195 and 201. The name "Little Velma" is not official, it was assigned to the figurine by the person who first found one and brought it to the attention of collectors. Experts think this figurine must have been sold only in Canada as all examples found have been in this region. The figurine was designed in 1952 by master sculptor Reinhold Under.

Measures approximately 3 1/8 inches tall by 6 1/8 inches in length by 4 5/8 inches in width. Made in Italy by ANRI exclusively for Goebel. Each single item is hand carved according to the artist’s master piece. The carver requires up to 20 cutting irons in many different sizes and forms to facilitate the production of a figure. The soft lime wood is particularly suitable for carving and allows each figure its own special character. As a result, a truly unique piece is created.

All items are hand painted. Trained painters use water colors and the finest brushes, as they allow the wood grain to remain visible. A specific follow-up treatment lends these figures the originality of a genuine and antique woodcarving.

Menzenbach and made approximately 2 inches smaller.  The halo was changed at that time from the open style to the flat style.  Produced in various colors: white overglasze, pastel blue cloak, brown cloak, ivory cloak, and pastel yellow.  Also been found in reddish brown terra cotta finish, signed "M.I. Hummel" with the "crown" trademark in both 10/I and 10/3 sizes.  Old catalouges list it as large as 14 inches.  Some earlier models appear with only the number 10 (no size designator).  Also called "Sitting Madonna with Child" or "Virgin With Flowers" in old catalougues.  Sometimes incised 10/3 instead of 10/III.  Both 10/I and 10/III are (TW) "Temporarily Withdrawn".

Size: 2-1/4” to 15”. In 1985, the official name was changed from “Infant of Krumbad” to the “Blessed Child.” It was also listed as “In the Crib” in an old 1950 catalogue. This figurine has been produced in three different finishes. Produced in brownish bisque finish (U.S. Market): full color and white overglaze (various other countries), sometimes found in Belgium. First modeled by master sculptor Erich Lautensack in 1937. (Lautensack died during the Second World War). Restyled by master sculptor Gerhard Skrobek in 1965. The two small holes on the back are designed to hold a wire halo. Full color and white overglaze pieces command varied premiums. Also found with the incised number 78/6 (Arabic) in (TM 1) “crown” and (TM 2) “full bee” trademarks only.

Size: 5” to 5-1/2”. TMK: 1-7. First modeled by master sculptor Reinhold Unger in 1937. Older models have yellow dress and no flowers in right hand. Restyled in 1965 by master sculptor Gerhard Skrobek who added flowers to right hand and changed color of dress to dark green. Both mold variations can be found with (TM3) stylized trademark. Older style can also be found with dark green dress. This variation would be considered rare and its value would be significantly higher. Old name; “Spring Flowers.” Crown mark pieces have a flower on reverse side. Later production pieces omitted this flower. “Spring Cheer” was listed as "Temporarily Withdrawn" (TW) from production on 31 December 1984, but may be reinstated at some future date.

Size: 3-1/4” to 3-1/2”. TMK: 1-7. Originally modeled by master sculptor Arthur Moeller in 1937. Very little difference between old and new models. Older models slightly larger and usually do not have dots or head scarf. Called “Knitter” in old catalogues. The "M.I. Hummel" signature is very faint or difficult to see on some old models. Occasionally found with a stamped "M.I. Hummel" signature on the bottom. “Happy Pastime” is the motif used on the 1978 Annual Plate, Hummel 271. “Happy Pastime” was permanently retired by Goebel as of 31 December 1996 and will not be produced again. The 1996 production bears a special “Final Issue” backstamp and a small gold “Final Issue” commemorative tag.

Size: 4-1/4” to 6-1/2”. Originally modeled by master sculptor Arthur Moeller in 1937 and later restyled by a combination of several modelers. Many size and color variations. Older models have dark brown or gray trousers. Similar to Hummel 64 “Shepherd’s Boy” except for single lamb and different colors. Both sizes of “Lost Sheep” were permanently retired by Goebel in the fall of 1992 and will not be produced again.

Size: 3-3/4” to 5”. First modeled by master sculptor Arthur Moeller in 1937. Restyled in 1964 by master sculptor Gerhard Skrobek. The small size (65/0) was modeled in 1955 by Gerhard Skrobek and is extremely rare since only a few sample pieces were produced. Called “So Long” or “Good Bye” in some old catalogues. Many size variations. Currently produced in only one size with incised number 65 only. A new variation of “Farewell” was created by error in the early 1980’s. During the assembly process, the basket was improperly placed, giving the appearance that handled was missing. “Farewell” was permanently retired at the end of 1993 and will not be produced again. The 1993 production bears a special “FINAL ISSUE” back stamp and a small gold “FINAL ISSUE” commemorative tag.

It is unknown if a similar number on a “Goose Girls” figurine that have been separated from wooden base. (See Hummel 148 and Hummel 149 for additional information.) This pair of bookends was listed as listed as "Temporarily Withdrawn" (TW) in December 31, 1984, but may be reinstated at some future date.

Size: 5” to 6”. TMK: 1-8. First modeled by master sculptor Reinhold Unger in 1936. Older models were sold with wooden poles and fiber disks; newer models with plastic poles for a short period of time. The metal poles have been used since 1970. Many size variations; the full bee pieces usually the largest. Originally, wooden poles are reflected in the prices of the older models. Originally plastic poles are the most difficult to locate.

Sizes: 3-1/2” to 4-1/2”. Originally modeled by master sculptor Reinhold Unger in 1936 and later restyled by master sculptor Gerhard Skrobek in 1964. Some size and color variations between old and new figurines. Both ears of rabbit pointing up on small size 58/0. Old name: “Just Friends.” Three different styles of construction on bottom of base: quartered, doughnut and plain. A new small size (58 2/0) “Playmates” was issued in 1986 which has an incised 1984 copyright date. According to old Goebel product book, a sample was produced by Reinhold Unger in 1936 of “Playmates” with an attached “pot,” similar to Hummel 16/I “Little Hiker” with attached “pot.”

The figurine was first modeled by master sculptor Reinhold Unger in 1936 but was not produced in quantity. It features two young children offering flowers and an angel with hands raised in a blessing gesture over Baby Jesus in manger. The 4-figure piece is crafted in porcelain and hand painted with careful attention to details. It measures 3-1/2" tall x 3" wide x 5" long. It is marked with a pressed in "M. I. Hummel" facsimile signature (her personal stamp of approval) on the rear side of the base. The underside is marked with TMK-6 The Missing Bee trademark. Initialed and dated 1982 by the painter. Made in W. Germany.

Boy Only. 5-1/2" tall.  Price is for the boy figurine only.  Modeled by master sculptor Reinhold Unger in 1935.  This figurine are weighted with sand through a hole on the bottom and closed with a cork or plastic plug.  Sometimes sealed with a paper sticker and inscription "75 Years Goebel."  The boy figurine was made only as part of bookend set and not normally sold separately.  This policy, however, was changed and the boy could be purchased alone and unweighted.  This was done mainly to satisfy collectors who desired a figurine to match the 1980 Annual Bell that had a motif similar to the bookend boy.  In 1981, HUM 415 "Thoughtful" was released in the U.S. market to match the annual bell.  "Bookworm" bookends were "temporarily withdrawn" (TW) from production on December 31, 1989.  Bookworm boy has been found with number "14" only (NO "A") incised on the bottom.  Boy was called "Learned Man" in very old catalogues.

Used as a demonstration promotion piece for 1992 with a special backstamp—sold only at stores having a Goebel "M.I. Hummel" promotion in 1992. Now back in current production, “Little Gardener” has not been found with (TM 4) “three line” trademark as of yet.

Mary is 6-1/2 inches tall. Baby Jesus is 3-1/2 inches long. Their bases are incised 214A and 1951 with the Goebel TMK 4 trademark imprinted in blue.

Size: 4-1/4” to 4-1/2”. TMK: 1-8. Originally modeled by master sculptor Reinhold Unger in 1937. Very little variation between old and new pieces. Older figurines are usually slightly larger. Old name: “Diligent Betsy” or “The Little Sister” in some old catalogues.

Size: 4-1/2” to 7”. Originally modeled by master sculptor Reinhold Unger in 1937. Has been restyled several times through the years. Many size variations. Full bee models are usually the largest size. Old name: “Under One Roof.” Slight difference between old and new models other than size. Several variations in structure of bottom of base design. This motif was used for the first Anniversary Plate, Hummel 280, in 1975. A new small size (71 2/0) was issued in the spring of 1985. The large size has now been renumbered 71/1. There are two variations of the new small size. The first production appeared with the inside of the umbrella hand painted with obvious brush strokes while later production has the inside painted by airbrush. A special painting variation of the small size Hummel 71 2/0 was produced in 1997 for QVC television program and sold by mail order. It was painted with a yellow umbrella with tan colored highlights, a decal signature on back of the umbrella and a special “60th Anniversary” back stamp and was available at local dealers.

Size 4-1/2” to 4-3/4”. TMK: 1-8. First modeled by master sculptor Arthur Moeller in 1937 but has been restyled in recent years. Sight difference in hair ribbon on girl. Old name: “Little Doll Mother” or “Little Mother of Dolls” in some catalogues. An unusual painting variation has recently been found with a white blanket with red cross stripes instead of the normal pink color and red stripes, in (TM 1) trademark. A special “60th Anniversary” figurine of “Doll Mother” was issued in 1997 with a special backstamp and a round gold medallion with: “Hummel 67 Doll Mother 1937-1997 (and) 60th” in a round circle. This figurine was first introduced at the Leipzig Trade Fair in 1937.

M.J. Hummel Singing Lesson Ashtray Boy w/ Bird Vintage W. Germany # 34 Rare. Pre-owned very good condition without any chips or repairs. Visible crazing as shown in my photos. Hand painted, multi colors such as dark blue, black, purple, yellow, orange, light brown and cream. Measures 3 3/4" tall by 7 1/4" long. Marked on the bottom: Logo, W. Germany and # 34.

Variations in height and size of base. Old name “Apple Thief.” Crown mark and early full bee trademarked pieces incised 56 only. Older models have the boy’s eyes open while newer version eyes are looking down at dog.

Size: 6-3/4”. TMK: 1-7. First modeled by master sculptor Reinhold Unger in 1936. Early crown mark models are sometimes found with bright orange-red saddle on horse. Old name: “Knight St. George” or “St. George and Dragon.” The original drawing by Sister Hummel for this figurine was reproduced in the 1934 German edition of “Das Hummel Buch,” published by Emil Fink of Stuttgart, Germany. Restyled in 1986. Variations in the wings of the dragon and minor changes in the tail of horse. It is likely that the factory was experiencing excessive breakage in this figurine. Price is for set of two, boy and girl.  Modeled by master sculptor Reinhold Unger in 1935.  These figurines are weighted with sand through a hole on the bottom and closed with a cork or plastic plug.  Sometimes sealed with a paper sticker and inscription "75 Years Goebel."  The girl is the same as HUM 3 and HUM 8.  The boy was made only as part of bookend set and not normally sold separately.  This policy, however, was changed and the boy could be purchased alone and unweighted.  This was done mainly to satisfy collectors who desired a figurine to match the 1980 Annual Bell that had a motif similar to the bookend boy.  In 1981, HUM 415 "Thoughtful" was released in the U.S. market to match the annual bell.  "Bookworm" bookends were "temporarily withdrawn" (TW) from production on December 31, 1989.  Bookworm boy has been found with number "14" only (NO "A") incised on the bottom.  Boy was called "Learned Man" in very old catalogues.

3 inches tall by 2-1/4 inches wide. "Silson" Unsigned Hummel figural pin of a boy and girl made in Germany in the 1940's.

"Silson" created a series of these child-like pins based on a licensing agreement with Hummel. Made of pot metal, each measures approximately 3" tall. This series was designed by William Regelmann for "Silson".

Kathy Flood has a chapter in her "Warman's Costume Jewelry Figurals" book on page 39 with the history and photos of these pins. These illustrations are from drawings of the Bavarian nun, Sister Maria I. Hummel. "Silson" evidently made slight changes to her illustrations so that they could patent these children in fun loving settings.

In 1933, several years after entering the convent, her artwork was published in a book when she was 24, unfortunately she died at the age of 37. Kathy Flood lists the names of 14 of the known Hummel brooches in her book.

Size: 5-1/2” to 6-1/2”. TMK: 1-8. First modeled by master sculptor Arthur Moeller in 1937. Restyled with the new textured finish in the late 1970’s by master sculptor Gerhard Skrobek. Many size variations. Old name: “The Good Shepherd.” Older figurines have a donut base while newer models have a plain base.

Size: 6-1/4” to 6-3/4”. TMK: 1-8. This companion figurine was first modeled by master sculptor Arthur Moeller in March of 1952, therefore will not be found with the crown trademark. Variation in height, and size of base. On older models, the girl’s eyes are open; on the newer version, her eyes are looking down at dog. Full bee models have an extra flower on base.

This beautiful wooden music box has a carved image of the Hummel "Chick Girl" motif. Reuge Swiss Musical Movement music box plays "Voices of Spring". Plaque on the inside cover reads 'Second Edition in a Series of Four / The M.I. Hummel Four Seasons Series / "Voices of Spring" / (c) Goebel 1987 / No. 02482 from a Worldwide Limited Edition of 10,000'.

Made in Denmark. Designed by Ingeborg Plockross Irminger. 6-3/4 inches tall. Base is fully marked with the Three Royal Towers of Copenhagen backstamp in green & 'B&G' underneath in blue on the underside of the figurine which indicates this piece was made between 1970 and 1983.
