BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS 1978 $100 Gold Coin

This 1978 One Hundred Dollar Gold Coin of the British Virgin Islands was issued to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. It bears on its reverse the first portrayal together, on any coin, of the Orb, the Sceptre and the Rod of Equity and Mercy—symbols of royal power throughout the ages. It also depicts the national flower of Great Britain, the rose, and bears the inscription "Coronation Jubilee 1953-1978."

Appropriate to this anniversary occasion, this coin is 25-sided, a shape unique to the British Virgin Islands.
As an official monetary coin, it can be spent at face value in the British Virgin Islands. 

It contains 7.10 grams of 900/1000 fine gold and is minted with a full Proof finish. Issued in its special sealed cachet, this One Hundred Dollar Gold Coin is a certified First Day of Minting Proof struck on June 2, 1978, the 25th anniversary of the coronation of H.M. Queen Elizabeth II. Proofs of this historic coin were minted in strictly limited edition by The Franklin Mint. No other Proofs of this gold coin will ever be minted again.

The obverse of this interesting and unusual coin bears the world-famous portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, which indicated that the British Virgin Islands is a member nation of the Commonwealth.
